Patient Preparation for Colonoscopy

Comprehensive Instructions for Using CitraFleet

To ensure a smooth and successful colonoscopy, follow the preparation steps below carefully. The patient must obtain four (4) sachets of CitraFleet (15g each) from the pharmacy and adhere to the outlined instructions.

TWO DAYS BEFORE THE EXAMINATION

  • The last meal should be consumed by 5:00 PM two days before the examination.
  • After this, consume only clear liquids (e.g., water, broth, or other light-colored transparent beverages).

ONE DAY BEFORE THE EXAMINATION

  1. At 12:00 PM:
    • Dissolve 2 sachets of CitraFleet in 300 ml of cold water.
    • A slight warming of the liquid may occur due to a chemical reaction—this is normal. Wait 5 minutes for it to cool before drinking.
    • After consuming the dose, drink 3 liters of clear liquids over the next 3 hours. This step is mandatory to ensure proper preparation.
  2. At 5:00 PM:
    • Repeat the process: dissolve 2 sachets of CitraFleet in 300 ml of cold water, let it cool for 5 minutes, and drink.
    • After this dose, drink 3 liters of clear liquids within the following 3 hours.

ON THE DAY OF THE EXAMINATION

  • Do not consume any food or liquids on the day of the examination.
  • Arrive at the clinic at the scheduled time.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Liquids Allowed:

  • Only clear and transparent liquids (e.g., water, broth, or light-colored beverages).
  • Avoid red-colored liquids.
  • Consuming clear broth is especially recommended.

Bowel Movements:

  • After taking CitraFleet, frequent bowel movements will occur until the bowel is completely emptied. Plan to stay at home the day before the examination to avoid inconvenience.

Medication Guidelines:

  1. Blood Thinners:
    • Discontinue at least 3 days prior to the procedure, based on your physician's advice.
    • Always consult your prescribing physician for guidance before stopping blood thinners.
    • After the procedure, resume your usual medication regimen as directed.
  2. Diabetes Medications:
    • Take half of your usual medication dose on the day of the examination.
  3. Hypertension Medications:
    • Do not take morning medications on the day of the procedure. Resume normal medication after the examination.
  4. Other Medications:
    • Unless instructed otherwise, take your regular medications with a small amount of water.

Accompaniment:

  • The patient must be accompanied by a family member or relative on the day of the procedure.
